Prince Edward Island Dietitians Registration Board Prince Edward Island Dietitians Registration Board is a member of the Alliance of Canadian Dietetic Regulatory Bodies. The Alliance of Canadian Dietetic Regulatory Bodies is made up of ten equal and independent dietetic regulatory bodies representing each Canadian province. Authority to regulate dietitians in the ten provinces is set out in respective provincial legislation for public protection. Regulatory bodies are responsible for ensuring the regulatory framework reflects the current dietetic practice environment.

The Prince Edward Island Dietitians Registration Board exists to regulate the practice of dietitians in the province. The Board ensures that the public receives competent and ethical dietetic services from Registered Dietitians. Dietitians have the legal obligation to serve and protect the public interest

The functions of the Board are to:
  • prescribe initial and continuing qualifications for registration;
  • assess applications and decide if applicants qualify for registration;
  • issue certificates of registration and keep the official register of registered practitioners;
  • prescribe and monitor adherence to standards of practice and ethical guidelines for registered practitioners;
  • investigate complaints, and exercise discipline or professional remediation of registered practitioners, by revocation, restriction or suspension of a registration, by reprimand, retraining requirement, fine or other means;
  • regulate the practice of the profession and to govern the members in accordance with the Dietitians Act, Standards and Discipline Regulations, and by-laws.

The Board is composed of five persons nominated by the Prince Edward Island Dietetic Association and appointed by the Minister of Health and Wellness, of whom three are registered dietitians, one is a person other than a dietitian, and the fifth may be a dietitian, another health professional, or a lay person. The Board also employs a registrar who maintains official listing of dietitians registered with the PEl Dietitians Registration Board.

Prince Edward Island Dietetic Association


The Prince Edward Island Dietetic Association (PEIDA) was incorporated in 1965. It is an organization that is structured to advance the profession of dietetics on PEI.

The role of the PEIDA is to:
  • foster public recognition and awareness;
  • encourage member involvement;
  • promote proficiency, high standards of practice, continuing professional education and career development;
  • represent members.
